Energy modes

Choose how much capability Dot uses for a question and switch modes in the app, Slack, Teams, or email.

Energy modes let you match Dot's capability and cost to the question:

• Economy — lighter on cost and a solid choice for everyday questions.

• Balanced — the default, with more depth when a question needs it.

• Frontier — the deepest reasoning for your most complex questions.

Your choice sticks to the conversation, so follow-up questions use the same mode. A new conversation starts with your workspace's default mode.

Switch modes

In the Dot app, use the energy-mode selector next to the message box.

In Slack, Teams, or email, start your question with one of these shortcuts:

• !e or !economy

• !b or !balanced

• !f or !frontier

For example: !f investigate why enterprise churn increased last quarter.

While Dot is working in Slack, select the current mode in the progress header to reopen this guide.

Adding go deep or ultrathink to a question temporarily runs that one answer in Frontier without changing the conversation's saved mode.

Your workspace may restrict mode selection or reserve a mode for certain groups. If you cannot select a mode, ask a workspace admin about your access.

Workspace defaults

Admins can choose the default mode, decide whether people may override it, and control who can use each mode under Settings → Advanced Settings → AI & Data Configuration.

Higher modes can do more work and may use more Agent Compute Credits.
